The Bald Soprano

A veddy English drawing room becomes an absurdist fun house in Eugène Ionesco's 1950 comedy, which unhinges language from communication and logic from reality. But the cartoonishness of the style is hard to limn right; Hal Brooks’s production is handsomely appointed, but among the cast, only Rachel Botchan seems completely at ease.—Adam Feldman
