The Wooster Group's Version of Tennessee Williams' Vieux Carré

The mise en scène of the Wooster Group's customarily disquieting new piece, directed by Elizabeth LeCompte, is essentially a Boschian orgy. Ari Fliakos is Williams's Vieux Carré avatar, the Writer, live-edited into pornographic films and surrounded by eccentrics in varying degrees of decay. The Woosters' aesthetic is typically freezing cold, but drugged by the play’s obsessively sensuous temperament, their ironic iciness becomes the clamminess of fever.—Helen Shaw
