Year Zero

There’s a fine line between universal human values and homogenizing conventions, and Michael Golamco’s play, a tale about first-generation Cambodians coming to terms with a suppressed family history, weaves all over it. Golamco balances notes of melancholy and goofiness with skill, but his schematic treatment of the material flattens any potential sorrow or strangeness into lukewarm dramedy.—David Cote
