What do you do? I am the associate director at James Fuentes LLC, a contemporary art gallery in the deep Lower East Side/Chinatown. I’m also an artist; I make animations. Most of them play with narrative and have a tendency to be way too loud, extremely repetitive or full of inappropriate self-mutilation (often by bats). My old teacher Elisabeth Subrin called it “some of the most uncool art I have ever seen,” which I think was supposed to be a compliment.

How would you classify your style? “Fantasy novel in the city” is the joking phrase I use.

What are some of your favorite places to hang out in NYC? I love Coney Island. Santos Party House can be great for dancing. Calder's Circus at the Whitney is kind of a perfect thing, and if you’re up there, go to Café Sabarsky at the Neue Galerie, which operates at a totally different pace than the rest of the city.

Why did you choose this location for the photo? The James Fuentes LLC space is a really special spot with a lot of character—we have the whole building and a courtyard out back.

What are you excited to do in the coming months? I love Watchmen and am psyched for the movie. Kenneth Anger has a P.S.1 show that I am excited about.
