Top-ranked warriors in white Mariel Zagunis, American Olympic gold medalist in saber, and three-time gold-winning Italian Valentina Vezzali will parry and riposte at the Fencing World Cup, which is held in New York for the first time in six years. The winners of the men’s saber, women’s saber and women’s foil brackets will advance to the World Championships in Paris, Nov 4–13. Siblings Keeth and Erinn Smart—who each won silver medals in saber and foil, respectively, at the Beijing Olympics in 2008—will offer ongoing analysis throughout the competition.
