Time Out New York’s move to free explained

You’ve got questions about Time Out New York going free, right? Well, here are your answers!

When did Time Out New York go free?
The first free edition of Time Out New York was on April 15 and every Wednesday after that! Magazines will be distributed from 6 to 10am and 3 to 7pm. We also have multiple midday locations throughout Manhattan that distribute magazines between 11am and 3pm.

Where can I get a free copy of Time Out New York?
Time Out New York will be distributed at 150 locations on the streets of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. A comprehensive map below outlines where you can pick up a copy. We'll also have copies inside cultural establishments, cafés and stores for you to pick up at your convenience. Please use the following link to find a location near you.

Will it still be the magazine you know and love?
Absolutely. We feel passionately that it’ll be the same inspiring, high-quality product you currently enjoy (though we’ve also dreamed up some cool new features and sections). You’ve trusted us in this city for almost 20 years, and that trust means everything to us. We’ll still be New York’s No. 1 source of inspiration and information on the latest movies, shows, exhibitions, and bar and restaurant openings in the city, and it’ll all still be filtered through our trademark critical eye.

What changes will be made to Time Out New York magazine?

The magazine will continue to provide inspirational and entertaining coverage of the best things to do in New York. We will bring you the same quality recommendations, reviews and engaging opinion from the world of film, theater, restaurants, bars, music, art and shopping. We’re also taking the opportunity to introduce a handful of new sections. Keep your eyes peeled!

Does free mean that there eventually won’t be any more hard copies?
No, definitely not. By going free we’re actually bringing more printed copies of the magazine to the streets of New York every week.

How can I get copies of Time Out New York to distribute at my business?
We’re so glad you’re excited to share Time Out New York with your customers! If you're interested in having copies sent to your business each week, please send an email to nydistribution@timeout.com

Subscription questions

Why am I still paying for a free magazine?

As a subscriber, you’ll still receive your personal copy delivered to your door to make completely sure you don’t miss out on the biggest, best and newest things New York has to offer.

What are the advantages of keeping my subscription?

Not only do you have your magazine delivered so that you do not have to worry about picking it up at distribution points across the city.

Do I have to make any changes to my current subscription?

No, you don’t need to do anything! We’ll automatically extend your subscription at the new rate, which means it will be much longer until your current subscription expires. If you bought your last subscription with a credit card, we’ll let you know nearer the time when it’s due to expire.
The annual renewal rate will be $25. This service is charged at cost against postage and packaging. (So, yeah, it’s a great value for the money!) You’ll be informed of the new rates with your next renewal notice.

Can I still get the magazine outside of NYC?
Yes, readers outside of NYC can still subscribe to Time Out New York and receive the same magazine they are accustomed to delivered straight to their home each week.

Where do I sign up for this new kind of subscription?
You can order a subscription to Time Out New York right here.

Will Time Out Kids be free too?
At this time, the move to free distribution is for Time Out New York only. You’ll continue to receive your subscription to Time Out Kids and be able to purchase it at the same locations as always.

How is my Time Out New York magazine being delivered?
Currently, Time Out New York magazine can be delivered by one of two methods. The magazine can be delivered via a courier service, such as a newspaper. Your magazine would be delivered to the closest location that is accessible to the delivery person, each Wednesday morning. They cannot deliver to your mailbox. The other method is via the U.S. Postal Service. They will deliver to your mailbox, but the delivery window is anywhere from five to 10 days. We offer courier service for New York City, Long Island, Westchester, and parts of Essex County, New Jersey.

Can I have my copy mailed instead of hand delivered?
Absolutely! The change will take effect after three editions. Please be advised that the magazine would then be sent via USPS and would arrive according to USPS standards.

Can I have a refund on my current subscription?

If you no longer wish to benefit from the Time Out New York subscription package, then you can of course have a subscription refund in line with the launch of the new Time Out New York happening in April. This will be to the value of your remaining subscription length, though we really hope that you will see the benefits of continuing to subscribe to Time Out and stay with us.

How do I get a refund if my subscription was purchased through Groupon?
If you purchased your subscription through Groupon and haven't activated it yet, you can get your refund directly through Groupon. If you've already activated your subscription, your refund will come through Time Out.

Can I stop my delivery when I will not be home?
Yes. You can go to contact tmycustserv@cdsfulfillment.com or call (888-GET-TONY) (888-438-8669) to have your delivery held. Please provide us 14 days in order to stop the subscription.

Can I get hand delivery to my post office box?
No, only U.S. Postal Service employees can deliver to P.O. boxes. If you have an alternate address, we can investigate if hand delivery is possible.

Can I have my home delivery brought up to my apartment door?
Each building has its own set of restrictions on access to the building and placement of magazines. We can investigate a request but cannot guarantee door delivery.

How long does it take for a new subscription to begin?
Once your order is placed, you should begin receiving your Time Out New York magazine within three weeks.

What if I can’t pick up a print copy of the magazine?
If you can not get your hands on the print edition, you can view the current, and past editions, of Time Out New York magazine here: https://www.timeout.com/newyork/digitalmagazine

There are now hardly any listings - no more museums section, for instance. Other listings much fewer. The incredible shrinking magazine.

I just received the first free issue.  It's missing columns.  I especially miss the Dance section.  I used to get the magazine 3 days after it was published.  Now it takes a week to get to Boston.

By the time I get to New York on Saturdays, there are no copies as well.  Goodbye.
