Part of a series focused on habitable neighborhoods in New York City, this tour explores the recent shifts in Downtown Brooklyn. Historically, the area wasn’t much of a residential draw, despite the prevalence of businesses and institutions such as Brooklyn Borough Hall. But the arrival of schmancy condo buildings, along with new commercial developments (such as the now-shuttered Dekalb Market), is changing that reputation. This tour will examine how the old and new converge in this neighborhood, and what the future holds for its residents. The tour ends at the Dime Savings Bank building on DeKalb Avenue, which—while not as iconic as the Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower farther along Flatbush Avenue—is still quite lovely in its own right. The neoclassical structure was originally built in 1907 and is easily recognizable thanks to its large dome. Location disclosed with ticket purchase.
