STPI is back with its open house this year. STPI Open House 2021: Kampong Spirit brings you print and papermaking activities inspired by quintessentially Singaporean elements – from nostalgic childhood food, snacks, games and memories, and our unique melting pot of cultures. Drawing upon the kampong spirit, this year's theme also pays tribute to the sense of community and unity that we have witnessed during these difficult times. It's a spirit that STPI hopes will continue to linger and grow in the days to come.
Get your hands busy and let your creative juices flow at the various workshops and stations that run simultaneously throughout the day, and create your own handmade print under the guidance of STPI's expert workshop team. Then, grab the rare chance to witness the various demonstrations on print and papermaking techniques in the Creative Workshop, before trying it out for yourself.
Take part in a Linocut Class ($35) and design, carve and print your own handkerchief that boasts striking symmetrical motifs inspired by the ornate tiles that adorn Peranakan shophouses; Scratch images of your favourite traditional games, from five stones to chapteh and gasing in the Drypoint Class ($35); or learn the art of batik with Tony Sugiarta ($100).
