Nobuaki Takekawa returns with an installation injected with his irreverent sense of humour and a confrontational, bold subject matter: the social issues faced by Japan today as a result of its failed attempt to conquer Asia during World War II. But there’s more fun to Sugoroku – Anxiety of Falling from History than you may think. Set on tables are board games (of which he’s best known for) and maps, complemented by the artist’s paintings and prints carrying historical and social themes. And right smack in the centre of the space is an imposing glass rocket sculpture – a tribute to the Sugoruku games craze of the ’50s and ’60s.
