When French trade unionist Michel (Jean-Pierre Darroussin) sacrifices his job just so his fellow worker will escape retrenchment, he ends up being robbed of his severance package by a random group of attackers. By a stroke of luck, he discovers the identity of one of the men and gets him arrested, only to realise the assailant’s motives were not what he expected, nor were the consequences of his vengeful act.
