The Theatre Practice needs no introduction. As Singapore's oldest professional bilingual theatre institution, it has staged some of the city's major theatre productions in history since its inception in 1965. It was founded by theatre doyen Kuo Pao Kun and dance pioneer Goh Lay Kuan as a performing arts school and transitioned into a professional theatre company. This year, The Theatre Practice turns 55 – marking a momentous occasion.
Celebrating the epic occasion, The Theatre Practice is throwing a 55-hour party in the form of a Facebook Livestream, naturally. Called Practice 55, it's taking place from 3pm on November 27 to 10pm on November 29 with a massive line-up that follows a rough chronological timeline of Practice’s development.
38 programmes divided into five main categories: Stories, Vault, Spaces, Homecoming, and Play. The programme starts at 12 Sommerville Walk, a significant space where The Theatre Practice had its beginnings and spent 22 formative years, seeing hundreds of students passing through its doors, learning theatre, dance, music and design.
