UPDATE, March 30: Due to the border and travel restrictions implemented around the world to help curb the spread of COVID-19, this exhibition by National Gallery Singapore in partnership with the National Gallery of Australia has been cancelled.

"We understand that many in Singapore and Southeast Asia have been looking forward to the exhibition, just like the teams at both museums. While we are disappointed by this difficult decision, we have to prioritise the safety and well-being of all personnel involved in the logistical arrangements and installation works for the exhibition," says Dr Eugene Tan, Director of National Gallery Singapore. "We will continue to explore other opportunities in opening our visitors’ minds to important artists and artworks that have had a deep influence on the development of modern art in Singapore and Southeast Asia, and in the global art scene. This includes making available a selection of the Gallery’s artworks, curatorial, public and education programmes on our digital channels."

March 9: Embark on a cultural journey like no other as you visit the Matisse & Picasso: Friends, Rivals exhibition at National Gallery Singapore. Marvel at the work of two of Europe's most influential 20th-century artists while immersing yourself in the story of their artistic relationship. On display, you'll find over 100 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, illustrated books and ballet costumes displayed in Southeast Asia for the first time. The exhibition illustrates the physical manifestations of the friendship and rivalry between the two great artists, revolutionising and changing the course of modern art as the world knew it.
