Crossing Cultures is a regular weekend programme by the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) that takes visitors on an exploration through the museum's collection – and Asia's deep heritage – through performing arts, crafts, food traditions and other cultural practices. Taking place on the first weekend of March, June, September, and December, it's back this time with a deep dive into Asian fashion, both past and present.
Crossing Cultures: Fashionable Asia takes over ACM this September 2 to 4 with dazzling prints and textiles from the continent. The museum has prepared an exciting line-up of fashion-inspired dance performances, tours, and workshops to inspire new appreciation of the creativity and craftsmanship behind the styles and dress of Asia.
Here's a sneak peek at what's in store. Journey into the music, dance, and fashion of Nusantara with a performance by Era Dance Theatre in Singapore and Sanggar Budaya Pesona Nusantara from Solo, Surakarta; flex your own creative muscles in a block printing session with Singapore's YABAI YABAI; get an exclusive tour of ACM's fashion and textile collection with docent and textile collector Hafiz Rashid ($10); and shop and upcycle at a mini market with Studio29 – among other events.
Crossing Cultures: Fashionable Asia consists of a mix of free and ticketed programmes. For the full list of activities and information about where to sign up, nhb.gov.sg/acm/whats-on/programmes/cc-fashionable-asia.
