Istana Guided Tour

Take up the rare opportunity to visit the official residence of the President of Singapore, with a 45-minute guided tour of the impressive building. The main Istana building was completed in 1869 and the gardens – which make for a lovely walk – contain an old Japanese artillery gun, lily ponds, the burial grounds of the Bencoolen Muslims and even a nine-hole golf course. Hear human interest stories (such as the inspiration behind paintings and artifacts, and the stories of banquets and other occasions) as well as learning about the architectural details of the 144-year-old well-loved monument. Hint: Another popular public attraction is the Changing of the Guard, which happens on the first Sunday of the month and takes place at 6pm.
