The world is changing at lightning speed due to rapid urbanisation and facing the wrath of envirogeddon seems inevitable. But don't despair, every small effort counts and you can start by doing your part to be more eco-friendly.

To gear you up for a greener, more sustainable life, MINI is taking you on an ecocultural trail around Chinatown during the second edition of MINI Extraoddinary from November 22 to 24. Starting from 10am to 7pm, reclaim your sense of adventure with engaging installations and activities while soaking up the rich heritage and cultural treasures of Chinatown.

More than just a car brand, MINI is doing its bid to address global issues arising from urban living and to counter environmental issues with innovative and practical solutions. Follow the footsteps of MINI as it spotlights sustainability through 16 stations designed to guide you down a more eco-friendly path – where the odd may eventually be the norm in the near future. Here’s what to expect at MINI Extraoddinary: An Ecocultural Trail.

Catch some art

Catch some art

Feast your eyes on the colossal installation, Veggie Might. The MINI-ComCrop collaboration showcases how urban farming can play a major role in food security. Over at Robries Gallery, witness the beauty of recycling at What Goes Around with a collection of stylish homeware constructed out of discarded plastic. Trace the strokes of calligraphy masters from Nanyang Calligraphy Centre as they pen auspicious greetings for Mother Nature in Sum Waste ink processed from sewage at Rewriting Our Fate.

Engage your senses

Engage your senses

Wander through Guardians of the Future, an archway flanked by a pair of Imperial guardian lions which are shaped by Mycotech using mycelium, an alternative to the stone obtained from destructive mining. For the uninitiated, mycelium is the ‘root’ structure of a mushroom. For a change of scenery, check into Changing Room where each room is decked with natural fabrics from Arane which are dyed and printed using only plants and their leaves.

Check out juicy accessories made from Pinatex, a leather-like material made from pineapple leaves at Pineapple Trading Store. Further peruse the range of myleather accessories from Mycotech at Mushroom Style Pte Ltd. Then admire the mementos made entirely from recycled trash by Robries Gallery at All I Got Was This Trashy Souvenir.

Swap your fast fashion outfits for green threads at Verte Couture. Design a wardrobe staple by dyeing and printing fabrics the all-natural way with Arane using a variety of plants and leaves. It’s then a challenge of Wits Vs Waste as you test yourself in a game of Chinese chess featuring pieces made entirely of upcycled plastic trash.

Jot down ideas

Jot down ideas

While you may not get a cuppa kopi at the Kopi Gu cart, you can get a couple of ideas presented by Bewilder on how coffee can be cultivated into edible mushrooms loaded with antioxidants, vitamins and immunity-boosting properties. Then ponder this: what if plastic can be dissolved in water or made edible with the food it contains? Evoware may have a seaweed-based solution that can turn that into a reality. Don’t miss a live demo at Soup for the Eco-Soul. For more mind-blowing demos, make your way to Scum & Scrumptious for the protein source of the future which is – brace yourself – algae.

Take a break

Take a break

Enjoy a cup of Craft & Culture kombucha made from tie guan yin or xiang pian at Cha, Cha, Cha mid-trail. For a bite, sample meatless bak kwa whipped up by Brawn & Brains at Meatless Packing District. Then have a taste of the future at Fortune in a Cookie where inside every spirulina cookie makes a revelation – the fortune of Earth is no doubt in our hands.
