The life of Jacques de Coutre, a Belgian trader, is the subject of this talk by NUS history department's associate professor Peter Borschberg. In particular, it will focus on de Coutre’s autobiography and his time in South-East Asia, which offers unique insights into 17th century Singapore as well as his plans for the island.
