Travel measures and and regulations changing every day, especially with the Omicron variant that's spreading across the globe. What a timing, too, especially as international travel is just opening up. We understand, it can be frustrating if you've had travel plans for 2022 and have had to pause trip planning because of changing travel restrictions.

If you haven't heard, there are currently no new ticket sales for all designated VTL (Air) flights for entry into Singapore until January 20, 2359hrs (SGT). Once the VTL resumes, ticket sales for entry from January 21 will also be temporarily reduced.

And if you need a refresher, are the current active VTL countries:

  • Australia
  • Brunei Darussalam
  • Cambodia
  • Canada
  • Denmark
  • Fiji
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Italy
  • Malaysia
  • Maldives
  • the Netherlands
  • the Republic of Korea
  • Spain
  • Sri Lanka

Thailand

VTL status: Active

Thinking of heading to The Land of Smiles? Singapore has an active VTL status with Thailand. However, don't expect to be heading to Bangkok quarantine-free for now. Thailand has recently suspended the Thailand Pass for all new Test and Go, VTL and Sandbox applications. The only exception, however, is the Phuket Sandbox. As part of the initiative, you'll have to stay in dedicated SHA+ Hotels in Phuket for seven days – but you're free to travel anywhere within Phuket. After which, you can travel freely around Thailand.

Indonesia

VTL status: Active – but it only applies for travel from Indonesia to Singapore

If you're thinking of travelling to the holiday island of Bali, the electric city of Jakarta or anywhere else in Indonesia, there's an active VTL. However, quarantine-free only applies for travel from Indonesia to Singapore. Those entering Indonesia from Singapore will have to undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine in Jakarta at one of these approved hotels.

Malaysia

VTL status: Active – VTL (Land) and VTL (Air)

Singapore also has existing VTL arrangements with neighbouring country Malaysia, where travellers can either travel via the Causeway (Land) or by flying into KLIA (Air). Those travelling via land will have to apply for a VTP (Land) Pass – and approvals are not interchangeable.

Cambodia

VTL status: Active

Ready to explore Angkor Wat, Ta Phrohm Temple and a part of the Mekong Delta? Another neighbouring country we can travel to via the VTL scheme is Cambodia, which was launched on December 16. However, do remember to check existing travel measures for incoming travellers mfaic.gov.kh/covid-19.

Australia

VTL status: Active

While not exactly a neighbouring country, Australia is a destination that's popular amongst Singaporeans who are looking to travel under the VTL scheme. Right now, quarantine-free travel is only available for destinations in New South Wales and Victoria.
