If you missed July’s major fireworks events in Tokyo or simply prefer enjoying the show from a comfortable seat, this one’s for you. On Saturday August 2, the seaside Makuhari Beach Fireworks Festa will light up the skies of Chiba with a one-hour display featuring an impressive 20,000 fireworks, the biggest of which explode to a diameter of 150 metres.
The festival takes place from 7.30pm and features fireworks launched from multiple points along the coastline, including 4,000 over the waters of Tokyo Bay, creating a dazzling, multi-angle spectacle.
There are eight ticketed viewing areas, with prices ranging from ¥2,500 to ¥50,000, offering everything from casual beach spots to premium seating with panoramic views at Zozo Marine Stadium. As of Tuesday, tickets for most areas are still available for purchase.
You can reach the venue in Makuhari in about fifty minutes from Tokyo Station, via Kaihin-Makuhari Station on the JR Keiyo Line.
Note that the festival is subject to cancellation in the event of inclement weather. A final decision on whether the fireworks will proceed will be announced by the organisers at 9am on the day of the event.
