Japan is known for its rich bathing culture, with an astounding variety of hot springs and bathhouses around the country. Bathing is a great way to relieve tension, especially during these stressful times, and you don’t even need to be in Japan to try it out.

Onsen fans can look forward to I Love Yu, a free YouTube Live event run by the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership, New York. The event is English-friendly and will feature two guest speakers who are well-versed in Japanese bathing: sento ambassador Stéphanie Crohin and a medical researcher studying baths and hot springs, Hayasaka Shinya.

I Love Yu will delve into the history of bathing culture in Japan as well as the artistic side of bathhouses, many of which are renowned for their murals and design. You’ll also get tips on soaking at home, so you can re-create the benefits of a hot spring experience from the comfort of your own bathroom. Plus, there’ll be a live Q&A session afterwards.

The event will take place this Sunday July 19 at 8am JST – just RSVP for free to receive a link to the live event.
