As Covid-19 coronavirus restrictions gradually wind down, many tourist attractions have started to reopen. Unfortunately, Universal Studios Japan has had to postpone the opening of its highly anticipated Super Nintendo World, which was originally set for July 2020. However, USJ isn’t sitting still this summer – a new Doraemon-themed attraction will be coming to the park for a limited time from August 4.

As a celebration of Doraemon’s latest film, ‘Stand By Me Doraemon 2’, the park will offer a new XR experience that combines virtual and augmented reality technologies. The Stand By Me Doraemon 2 XR Ride will take you on a time travelling journey with Doraemon and friends in a time capsule. The ride promises an immersive virtual reality experience, so expect to feel like you’ve been transported into the movie. The new attraction will be available from August 4 2020 to January 6 2021.

Currently you'll find Doraemon roaming around USJ’s Jurassic Park area until July 22, where you’ll get to meet and take photos with him. While you’re there, seek out the special-edition souvenirs and Doraemon-themed food that are not available elsewhere. USJ is set to reopen to visitors from all prefectures on July 20, and tickets are available to book now.
