If you really want to find luxury in the UK, it’s never too far away. From deluxe spas and posh cocktail bars to world-leading restaurants, this country knows how to life the high life very well indeed.
That goes for hotels, too – which was proven at the seventeenth annual World Luxury Hotel Awards, held last weekend at the Grand Hyatt Athens. In a field consisting of over 2,000 competitors (which were judged on stuff like service delivery, luxury, presentation and guest feedback) one UK establishment was named the best luxury hotel in all of northern Europe.
The winning hotel was The BLVD in Blackpool. Right next to the Pleasure Beach amusement park, the BLVD opened in 2019 and features 120 deluxe rooms that all boast views out over either the sea or Blackpool’s legendary theme park. It’s also known for its signature beachfront restaurant The Beachside, which serves up fancy stuff like moules mariniere and a 225g slab of Forest of Bowland beef fillet.
Klaus Spiekermann, the hotel’s general manager, said: ‘BLVD is truly one-of-a-kind and being awarded in this way is a testament not only to our wonderful surroundings but to the dedication of our teams who consistently offer luxury to our guests.’
‘While still a relatively new offering, being named the best luxury hotel in Europe confirms the unique and special destination we have built. Our intention has always been to set a new standard for luxury and this award means a great deal as we continue to establish ourselves as one of the UK's and now Europe's leading destinations.’
