The UK has plenty of the world’s finest restaurants – and it isn’t just us that thinks so. From the legendary World’s 50 Best Restaurants list and TripAdvisor’s ranking to the awards of luxury travel sites, Britain is widely celebrated for its array of top-notch eateries.
And that’s the case once again with the latest ranking of the world’s greatest restos by La Liste. Launched in 2015, La Liste compiles thousands of publications, guidebooks and reviews, and combines them with the views of thousands of chefs. The ranking then picks out the world’s 1000 best restaurants, giving them a score between zero and 100.
This year, excitingly, one British establishment took top spot. Simon Rogan’s three Michelin-starred restaurant L’Enclume in the Lake District scored a massive 99.5 in La Liste 2024, marking the first time a UK eatery has topped the poll.
It’s worth mentioning that while L’Enclume did take top spot, it wasn’t the only place to do so. It shared the spoils with five other establishments around the world: Le Bernardin (New York), Guy Savoy (Paris), La Vague d'Or - Le Cheval Blanc (Saint-Tropez), Schwarzwaldstube (Baiersbronn, Germany), Lung King Heen (Hong Kong) and Sushi Saito (Tokyo).
