A trattoria near Stratford-upon-Avon, a whisky distillery on the Isle of Skye and a mysterious restaurant in Cheltenham are a few of the newest additions

There are less than two months to go until Michelin announces which restaurants across the world have earned themselves one of those oh-so-coveted stars.
But before a restaurant can be handed a Michelin star, it must first be part of the Michelin Guide. The guide is put together by anonymous inspectors who travel the globe judging restaurants on their mastery of flavour, quality of produce and consistency. New entries into the guide are announced every month, and now Michelin has revealed December’s additions.
The Michelin Guide UK’s 23 newest members include Bastardo’s Trattoria in Shipston-on-Stour. Coffee shop and bakery by day, trattoria by night, Michelin praised the eatery for being a ‘love letter to straightforward Italian cooking’.
Another notable addition is Maré by Rafael Cagali in Brighton and Hove, which launched back in September and offers a ‘highly original menu’ with dishes created for both sharing, like grilled octopus and confit potato skewers, lobster claw tartlets, BBQ brill and lobster rice with ox tongue. Michelin added that Maré has ‘warm and genuine service that will have you leaving with a smile on your face’.
Of course, there were plenty of new London restaurants added to the guide too, including Fulham’s Brasserie Constance, Spanish spot Legado and Thai place Kruk. You can read more about those additions in the capital here.
December’s new members also included the Isle of Skye’s Three Chimneys at Talisker Whisky Distillery, which celebrates seafood, traditional Scottish fare and whiskey, and Cheltenham’s JOURNEY, a ‘playful and unconventional’ spot that only reveals its location 24 hours before your reservation via a set of clues. As you feast on 12 courses, expect a sequence of interactive elements and sensory surprises (or, there’s a seven course alternative launching in January). See the full list of December’s Michelin Guide newcomers below.
