As CVS continues its plan to restructure and streamline operations, another round of closures has been announced. The pharmacy chain has already closed more than 900 locations, and now it plans to shutter nearly 300 stores across the U.S.

Why is CVS closing stores?

Back in February, CVS announced that it would be closing nearly 300 retail locations in 2025 as part of its plan to streamline and simplify operations. The company said it's seen a shift in consumer behavior, population and pharmacy care access and is adapting the company's operations to meet customer needs.

Which CVS locations are closing?

While CVS has not released a list of specific locations that will be closing, local news stations and online reports have revealed that locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, New York, North Carolina, D.C. and several other states have already shuttered.

Other major U.S. closures

U.S. store closures hit a high point in 2024, with the trend expected to continue in 2025. In the pharmacy industry, Rite Aid and Walgreens have closed hundreds of locations. Other areas have been affected too—from retail to restaurants—with closures announced from Kohl’s, Macy’s, Party City, Big Lots, 7-Eleven, Red Lobster, Denny's and others.
