Time Out says

Bar Darn on Khaosan Road gives a new meaning to “dive bar”.

Khaosan Road has been welcoming a few new cool spots since Bangkok emerged from lockdown. In addition to “spiritual bar” and Tropical Galaxy and music bar Mischa Cheap, you have Bar Darn, which takes on a fun and intriguing concept.

The bar is one of four hangouts situated in a four-story house that promotes an immersive experience of healing, chilling and dancing. The space is compact (can accommodate about 10 guests) but goes big in design. Moving images of the oceanic realm are projected on the wall while decor evokes things you see under the sea (a lamp styled like a jellyfish, for one). Everything adds up to create an ambiance that reflects the bar’s name (bar-darn in Thai means “underwater”).

The drinks follow the same wave as the bar’s interiors. Deep Dive (B290), for instance, has hints of squid ink, whereas Coral (B260) is served with garnish that replicates corals. Samui (B260) adds a hint of coconut and pandan, and makes you feel like you’re sipping a sundowner on a beach.

Bar Darn is also hoping to make a splash with Thai-oriented cocktails such as Chalawan (B240), which is flavored with the sweet notes of jasmine and pandan (you can upsize to a bucket called Tapao Gaew for B450), and Rod Nam Dam Hua (B290), which comes in a metal bowl with a flower garland.

Bar Darn is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 19:00 onwards. Reservations (via 08 9414 8338) are highly recommended.
