Time Out says

The rare mark of a truly good hotel stay is when you don't want to leave. Not because your flight is delayed or because you've run out of clean clothes, but because packing your suitcase feels vaguely offensive. That's exactly how I feel checking out of Andaz One Bangkok.

Bangkok is not short on luxury hotels. The city practically specialises in them. But what makes Andaz One Bangkok stand out is that it doesn't try to be a generic international luxury hotel that could exist anywhere from Dubai to Dallas. Instead, it leans hard into the story of its neighbourhood, weaving the history of Wireless Road into almost every corner of the property.

Set within the sprawling One Bangkok development and overlooking the greenery of Lumphini Park, this is a hotel that feels deeply connected to its surroundings while delivering all the comforts you'd expect from a modern luxury stay.

Why stay at Andaz One Bangkok?

The hotel's design takes inspiration from Vidyu Palace, a grand residence that's still tucked away down a long driveway on Wireless Road. Built in 1925 by a Swiss-German architect and furnished by Thai craftsmen, the palace is still run by the daughter of H.R.H. Prince Rangsit Prayurasakdi of Siam, where it plays host to intimate events and private dinners.

At first glance, you might not notice it. But look closer and the references begin to reveal themselves. The dramatic entrance doors are perforated to mimic sunlight filtering through the trees of Lumphini Park. Wrought-iron gate motifs reappear throughout the interiors. Traditional window grilles, neighbourhood shopfront shutters and architectural details from old Bangkok have been reinterpreted into contemporary design elements.

The most striking piece is a giant tapestry in the lobby by Ploenchan "Mook" Vinyaratn, a prominent textile artist. It's not merely decorative. Each colourful section tells part of the story of Wireless Road and its evolution over the decades. Power lines reference the area's history as Thailand's communications hub, while geometric forms nod to landmarks like the iconic Siri Apartments, one of Bangkok's most recognisable examples of mid-century modern architecture.

What are the rooms like at Andaz One Bangkok?

I stayed in a Premier King Corner Room, a massive room even by Bangkok's typically generous standards, with a layout that's thoughtfully designed, with separate zones for sleeping, lounging and working. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame sweeping views across Lumphini Park, particularly spectacular at sunset when the city begins to glow golden.

The room balances contemporary luxury with subtle local references. Sage green tiles bring a sense of calm to the restroom, while tying in nicely with the greenery outside. The bathroom is finished in marble, it features twin sinks, a deep soaking tub and separate bath and shower areas positioned at opposite ends of the space. I particularly love the small details. Bathroom amenities are stacked in a way that forms a miniature landscape inspired by the park outside and you're treated to Eleventh Hour-scented bath products by Byredo.

What are the restaurants like at Andaz One Bangkok?

Dining centres around three key venues. Andaz Terrace serves breakfast and daytime dining in a bright, relaxed setting overlooking the city. The terrace itself is particularly lovely during the late afternoon, when the Bangkok heat begins to ease and the skyline turns golden.

For lunch and dinner, Jǐng focuses on Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine in a sleek contemporary dining room. The space feels sophisticated but at the same time contemporary and casual, making it equally suitable for business lunches and leisurely dinners.

Then, there's Piscari, the rooftop dining and bar at the top of the building, which features flavours from the Mediterranean brought to life by chef Marc Vasseur, who previously ran Jaja French Bistrot and cooked at l’Atelier Robuchon in London. For those looking to live it up, there are private dining rooms, party spaces and a resident DJ setting the mood as Bangkok's skyline begins to sparkle after dark. But if you're craving something cosier, slip away into the hidden speakeasy-style cocktail bar for a more mellow vibe.

We also loved that the 24-hour Andaz Lounge is open to all guests. Coffee, snacks and refreshments are available throughout the day, while Sunset Hour from 5pm to 6pm offers complimentary evening drinks.

What is the service like at Andaz One Bangkok?

For a newly opened hotel, the operational polish is impressive. Requests are handled quickly and efficiently, whether it's ordering room service or requesting a pillow and having it arrive faster than expected.

One detail I particularly appreciate is how consistently staff address guests by name, even during phone interactions. It's a small thing, but it creates a sense of familiarity that many larger luxury hotels struggle to achieve.

The laundry service is another standout. Freshly cleaned clothes arrive neatly pressed and folded inside an elegant brown leather presentation box, or on hangers if preferred.

What are the facilities like at Andaz One Bangkok?

The facilities occupy the seventh floor and make the most of the hotel's position overlooking Lumphini Park. The outdoor pool offers uninterrupted views across the treetops and city skyline, creating a surprisingly tranquil escape from Bangkok's constant buzz. The wellness facilities include steam rooms, saunas and experience showers, while the fitness centre operates 24 hours a day. The gym itself is spacious and well-equipped, making it suitable for both serious workouts and quick holiday maintenance sessions.

One notable omission is the absence of an on-site spa. Instead, we're told by the front desk to check out Thann Spa & Onsen in the adjoining mall. While Bangkok is hardly short on world-class spas, travellers who like checking into a hotel and never leaving may find themselves wishing for one.

What's the area like around Andaz One Bangkok?

The hotel sits within One Bangkok, the city's ambitious new mixed-use district. Direct access to Lumphini MRT station makes exploring the city straightforward, while the park itself provides a welcome antidote to Bangkok's famously hectic pace – the hotel also offers guided 5km runs around the park at 7am every Wednesday if you feel so inclined.

You're also within easy reach of Sukhumvit, Silom and Sathorn, making the hotel equally appealing for business travellers, weekend city-breakers and first-time visitors.

Why should you book a stay at Andaz One Bangkok?

Many luxury hotels claim to celebrate their destination. Andaz One Bangkok actually does. What could have been another polished international luxury property instead feels deeply rooted in Bangkok's history, architecture and culture.

Most importantly, it manages to feel both stylish and comfortable, a combination that's harder to pull off than many hotels realise. And when you're sitting on the edge of your bed reluctantly zipping up your suitcase, wishing you had just one more night, that's usually a sign they've got something right.
