The arrival of a new year never fails to excite us. We’re particularly looking forward to 2021. Why? For the simple reason that 2020 has been filled with anxiety-inducing things that make it one of the wildest times to be alive. The devastating global pandemic, the chaotic presidential elections in the States, the endless mess that is Brexit, not to mention the rise of an unexpected political movement in our country—all of these 2020 events made us want to scream out loud and push the reset button to start anew.

To prepare ourselves for a brand-new chapter, we plan to usher out 2020 with a bang and soak our spirits in the delightful festivities hosted by multiple venues all over Bangkok. During this time of the year, these places string up bright lights, blast joyful music and host holiday activities—very helpful if you and your loved ones just want to enjoy good vibes and leave the frustrations of the past year behind.

And you won’t have to think too hard on where to go. We’ve done all the work and have come up with five of the best places to say “good riddance” to 2020 and ring in the New Year in Bangkok.

Counting down at Bangkok's largest riverfront promenade is ideal if you’re hoping to be entranced by vibrant lights and decorations of Bangkok Illumination 2020 festival, and amazing eco-friendly fireworks display at the second year of Amazing Thailand Countdown 2021, a larger-than-life New Year Celebration event the mega-complex partners up with Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Bonus: Getting to ICONSIAM is soon going to be a lot easier with the opening of the new BTS 'Golden' line on this Dec 16, connecting ICONSIAM at Charoen Nakorn Station to Krung Thonburi station of Silom line.

If you don’t fear the crowds, Bangkok's most infamous destination is one of the best spots for celebrating New Year. The whole area is reclaiming what was once a tourist-packed street and has plans to toast 2021 in a rave party like never before.

ONESIAM (Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery)

These three mega-complexes under the ONESIAM group each have gimmicks up their sleeve to herald the coming of what we hope is a better year.

Siam Paragon is hosting "Siam Paragon the Glorious Celebration 2021", a lively gathering where you can say hello to new beginnings amid an eye-popping 15-meter Christmas Tree at Parc Paragon, dazzling lights and jolly Christmas tunes.

Meanwhile, Siam Center has collaborated with popular mascot Usagyuuun in "Siam Center Celebrates Play to the Full 2021". Part of the celebrations is the launch of Usagyuuun Café, a pop-up coffee shop serving food and drinks inspired by the sassy rabbit.

Siam Discovery is also reveling in the holiday spirit with "Siam Discovery the Moment of Joy Celebration 2021", a Christmas campaign that invites guests to gaze with awe at an eco-friendly Christmas Tree made of over 10,000 recycled aluminum cans, and to soak up trippy images inside a kaleidoscope room.
