After months of teasers regarding the arrival of the first The Standard hotel in Bangkok, we can finally confirm that it’s definitely coming to town this May!
The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon hotel is set to open at King Power Mahanakhon, one of the city’s most iconic skyscrapers, this May 2022—the latest addition to the fast-growing global portfolio of the American brand that’s known for its playful sensibilities and unconventional approach to hospitality. As with all The Standard hotels, the property will feature stylishly appointed guestrooms, a dynamic selection of F&B offerings and world-class amenities.
Prior to its opening, and to build up more anticipation, we have rounded up six exciting tidbits about The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon.
1. It will be The Standard’s flagship property in Asia
The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon is the ninth property under the American boutique brand, which is recognized by its inverted logo, and the upcoming branch in Thailand (The Standard, Hua Hin welcomed guests to its beachfront property in December 2021). These two The Standard newcomers are the first in Asia, and come after more than two decades since the inaugural property launched in Miami back in 2006.
The Bangkok property will be the hotel brand’s flagship establishment in Thailand and Asia. It will feature the same vibrant and eclectic vibes of the New York branch, which is said to fully embody the essence of the trendy hotel brand.
2. It will take over the iconic pixelated King Power Mahanakhon skyscraper
There’s no other high-rise landmark in Bangkok that can turn heads quite like the pixelated King Power Mahanakhon. Located in the heart of commercial district Sathorn-Silom, the skyscraper boasts 78 mixed-use floors, a significant number of which will be taken over by The Standard, including the rooftop.
3. Its interiors are designed in collaboration with world-renowned designer Jaime Hayon
The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon’s seamlessly stylish spaces partly come from the vision of famed Spanish artist/designer Jaime Hayon. Known for his eye-popping and vibrant aesthetics, Hayon worked side by side with The Standard’s in-house creative team to create gorgeous interiors that include vibrant art installations and eye-catching decor.
4. Over 150 rooms boasting great views and first-class amenities will welcome guests
A total of 155 guest rooms will each feature modern amenities and cutting-edge technology. Even better, the rooms and suites come with floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to expansive views of Bangkok’s skyline. You can also enjoy more lifestyle activities via the likes of a 24-hour gym, an outdoor pool and fully-equipped meeting rooms.
5. Six cool drinking and dining outlets will surely attract gourmands and lifestyle connoisseurs
Leading the bunch is Mott 32, the acclaimed Cantonese restaurant from Hong Kong that will open its inaugural branch in Bangkok within The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon. Ojo Bangkok will take over the sky-high space once occupied by Mahanakhon Sky Bar, and will focus on contemporary Mexican cuisine and cocktails. On top of Ojo will be Sky Beach, an al fresco rooftop bar that will offer stunning 360-degree views of the city.
Lobby venue The Parlor will be welcoming guests to a fun-filled ambience elevated by live music and parties, while Tease will mark itself as a spot to unwind with afternoon tea and American desserts. For all-day dining needs, you have The Standard Grill.
6. It will play host to an ever-changing line-up of cool and exciting events and activities
Just like its sister hotel in Hua Hin, which invites guests to experience fun activities like surfing, The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon will also follow suit with a line-up of events, this time for city dwellers and travelers, such as Not Your Standard Bingo, Standard Sounds, Standard Talks and much more!
