Reconnect With Your City: Fun things to see and do near Suvarnabhumi Airport

There’s always a flurry of activity in Suvarnabhumi Airport—it is probably one of the busiest travel hubs in Southeast Asia. But you’d be surprised to find out that there is as much going on in the neighborhood surrounding Suvarnabhumi as there is within it. Located southeast of Bangkok, the area of Suvarnabhumi is especially bustling during the weekend, and is popular among Bangkokians who want to get away from the city and explore attractions you wouldn’t necessarily find in the capital, such as outlet malls, golf courses, and even waterparks. The same attractions can also be tempting to travelers, especially those on a lengthy layover or whose flights have been delayed. You have the option to wait around listlessly at the airport or you can leave your bags at luggage storage, hop in a taxi, and explore these destinations within easy reach of Suvarnabhumi.

Reconnect With Your City: Find out where to unwind in the bustling neighborhood of Silom

Reconnect With Your City: Find out where to unwind in the bustling neighborhood of Silom

Let us set the scene on how crazy Silom can get in one day. Like its sister neighborhood Sathorn, Silom is one of Bangkok’s major CBDs and home to huge establishments and institutions such as national banks, long-established schools, and international corporations. The start of the day sees a flurry of students, nine-to-fivers, and service crew flocking to their schools and workplaces. At noon, office workers come out to hunt for a quick lunch, either from the street food carts or mom-and-pop shops that line the neighborhood’s main road. More chaos manifests in the late afternoon as everyone tries to get home or let loose—or go wild—at one of the many bustling restaurants, bars, and clubs that make Silom one of the Thai capital’s most vibrant areas. It’s easy to just pop in and dine, drink, and dance ’til you drop or until the wee hours, whichever comes first.     Silom is also easily accessed via BTS Saladaeng and MRT Silom, which makes it even more welcoming and attractive to both curious tourists and local revelers from all over the city.    The neighborhood may be notorious for its endless bustle and jam-packed establishments, but there is another side to Silom. One where you can steer clear of the crowds and frantic rush, and kick back at your own pace. Let us guide you through a day at Silom’s more quiet spots.   RECOMMEND: Rediscover your love for music and entertainment at these 7 hotspots, or ‘Reconnect With Your City’ to see where else you should go in the Thai capi

3 bartenders share their tips on how to drink responsibly on a night out

The cocktail revelry is in full swing this May. With so many exciting happenings, it’s easy to get lost in the merry-making and forget about drinking responsibly. But we know you don’t want to hear that from us. Instead, we’ll let the experts speak. This month, we sit down with three prominent bartenders in the region to get their takes on why responsible drinking isn’t just another boring concept. Hear them dish out practical handles on how to stay hydrated while drinking, tips on bar hopping in their respective cities, and even hard truths on dealing with FOMO.   Matteo Cadeddu, Opium Bar, Bangkok Photograph: Matteo CadedduMatteo Cadeddu, Opium Bar, Bangkok Matt’s easygoing and carefree personality means that to him, responsible drinking is all part of the fun equation. The bar manager at Opium Bar Bangkok states plainly that responsible drinking is simply about “having fun while knowing your limits.” He also stresses that “[drinking] water is important, especially in hot cities like Bangkok” where the heat, combined with alcohol consumption, can potentially cause dehydration. Some of Matt’s tips include drinking a glass of water per cocktail and placing your glass of water wi

Ban Tad Thong is the world‘s 14th coolest street

Ban Tad Thong is the world‘s 14th coolest street

Time Out's latest list of the world's 30 coolest streets for 2024 is out—and Bangkok's Ban Tad Thong made the list at an impressive no.14! The list, as rated by Time Out editors and insiders around the world, ranked streets based on their dynamic vibes, and the presence of bustling eateries and lively small businesses. Melbourne's High Street in the suburb of Northcote claimed the top spot for the year, thanks to its perfect blend of old charms and new vibes. Hollywood Street in Hong Kong followed closely behind at no. 2, lauded for its rich history dating back to 1844 as well as repurposed art and creative hubs like Tai Kwun and PMQ. In Bangkok, where eating is a religion, no street is hotter than Ban Tad Thong, which stands no.14 on this year's list. Despite facing gentrification challenges, Ban Tad Thong has transformed from a network of neglected lanes selling autoparts to become a new street food haven. Lining up both sides are venues for wok-fried fare, hotpot eateries, and dessert joints. Acclaimed bar Find the Photobooth has just moved in and art venues are popping up all around. Plus, the street will be hosting its first Songkran celebration this April. Bad Tad Thong will certainly be buzzing in 2024.  Here are the top five streets on Time Out's list: High Street, Melbourne Hollywood Street, Hong Kong East Eleventh, Austin Guatemala Street, Buenos Aires Commercial Drive, Vancouver For the complete list, visit the website.

Bangkok temps to rise to nearly 50℃ in the coming days

Thailand has officially entered its summer season. As early as the last few days of February, the city was already awash in sweltering heat. And it’s not going to get any better soon—the “feels like” temperature is projected to reach almost 50 degrees Celsius in the coming days! In the Meteorological Department of Thailand’s recently released weather forecast, you’ll see that the “feels like” temperature, a calculated combination of air temperature, wind, and humidity, is expected to reach as high as 48.1 degrees in Bangkok, with the highest figure expected at a scorching 51.4 degrees Celsius in Chonburi. People are advised to avoid direct sun exposure and to stay hydrated to prevent heatstroke.
