The entire MRT Yellow Line is fully operational today (19 June) following the opening of Lat Phrao station—the last station to open on the line—allowing you to travel from the Ratchada-Lat Phrao intersection to Samrong in Samut Phrakarn in less than an hour (nearly impossible if you were to travel along Lat Phrao Road). This new station is connected to the Blue Line’s Lat Phrao station, so traveling in and out of town has become easier than ever.

This latest opening came after the first 22 stations on the Yellow Line became accessible a couple of weeks earlier. During this test run, you can catch the train for free from 6am to 9pm. The current waiting time is around 10 minutes.

The Yellow Line was built to fix the congestion on Lat Phrao Road, which witnesses some of Bangkok's worst traffic jams. Due to several limitations, such as road width, and civil strategy, it was constructed as a lighter (and more economical) monorail—Thailand’s first. It runs eastward from Ratchada-Lat Phrao intersection to Bang Kapi, where it veers to the right onto Sri Nakarin Road. The train then continues moving southward to Sam Rong station, which is connected to the BTS Green line, in Samut Prakan. Noteworthy spots along this line include Choke Chai 4 food market, The Mall Bangkapi, HOP Gallery at Seacon Square, and Paradise Park.

The official opening of the line is unknown—probably far ahead—so enjoy free rides while you can. Check the latest news on www.facebook.com/MRTYellowLine.
