This morning (26 March) Grab, a leading ridesharing and taxi-hailing app, has acquired all businesses in Southeast Asia of Uber, the world-famous ridesharing app and its biggest rival in the region. This effects ridesharing and food delivery operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.  According to a statement released by Grab, The acquisition results in Uber getting 27.5% in Grab and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi will join Grab's board.

Grab hasn't announced the details of how the two apps will be merged, including how will the new fare be calculated. What we know for now is that Uber app will be active until 8 April. After that, your information, excluding payment details, will be transferred to Grab. Uber drivers who would like to move to Grab can register themselves hereUberEats, however, will operate until the end of May and restaurant partners will be automatically transferred to GrabFood.

You can use your Uber app outside the SEA region, though.
