It’s confirmed. The Election Commission of Thailand has announced that the residents of Bangkok will get to cast their votes for their next governor on 22 May 2022.

This upcoming election will be the first since 2013. Current governor Assawin Kwanmuang was then appointed by Prayut Chan-o-cha who, at the time, was the head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). Prior to the Assawin’s governance, Sukhumbhand Paribatra was in the role, but was removed after accusations of corruption.

City Hall will have a registration period for prospective candidates from 31 March to 4 April.
