The second season of the Netflix original Thai series Girl from Nowhere was recently honored as the Best Asian TV Series at this year’s Busan International Film Festival.

For the third consecutive year, the prestigious film festival held the Asia Contents Awards, which gives nods to excellence in television, online video streaming platforms (OTT) and online content from across the continent.

Hit Korean series Move to Heaven was the night’s biggest winner, bagging three awards, namely the Best Creative Award, the Best Actor Award (Lee Je-hoon) and the Best Writer Award (Yoon Ji-ryun). Meanwhile, another Netflix production, sci-fi/thriller Sweet Home, took home three different prizes: the Newcomer-Actress Award (Ko Min-si), the ACA Excellence Award (Song Kang), and the Technical Achievement Award.

Another Thai production was recognized at the festivities aside from Girl from Nowhere. Bad Genius: The Series, which also airs on the same streaming platform, won the Creative Beyond Border award, which it shared with Japanese show Alice in Borderland.

The 2021 Busan International Film Festival, held on 6 to 15 October, also premiered the upcoming Thai-language mystery drama Forbidden, which is produced by HBO Asia.
