Famed Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul is ready to shake the global cinematic realm once again with Memoria, his English-language debut starring noted actress Tilda Swinton.

The film follows the story of Jessica, a Scottish woman travelling in Colombia, who one day wakes up to a nerve-wrecking “rumble”. She continues to hear the jarring sound in her head and this leads her to embark on a journey wherein she encounters an archaeological mystery surrounding a spirit-releasing ritual and possibly the origins of this bizarre sensory experience.

Shot amidst Colombia’s lush jungles, this spine-chilling drama is laden with the director’s signature—strange cinematic elements and unconventional storytelling alongside an obsession with natural settings. It is as uncanny and outlandish as Apichatpong’s previous attempts, including his 2010 masterpiece Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives.

Memoria will premiere at the Cannes Festival on July 15. Its global release has yet to be announced. Check out the poster and trailer of the movie below.
