Following the debut in Ayutthaya last June, Michelin Guide Thailand continues to expand its recognition roster to four more provinces in the Isan region for the upcoming edition in 2023, namely Nakhon Ratchasima, Udon Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, and Khon Kaen.

Today (April 26), the privileged tire-man award took to the stage at Capella Bangkok and announced the good news about the extension to the four destinations in Isan. At the ceremony, president for East Asia and Australia of the Michelin Group Manuel Montana explained that the culinary culture in the northeastern part of Thailand is so unique that it can drive the food and tourism industries in the country.

The criteria for the restaurants in Isan to make it to the red book remain the same as those used to assess the award-worthy eateries in other regions, such as consistency, taste, and the ability to showcase local ingredients.

Isan, aka Thailand’s largest region in the northeast, is highly regarded for its rich culinary culture with the extreme flavors of spiciness being the most recognized element. Furthermore, the region is also home to the country’s best attractions like Red Lotus Park in Udon Thani, Wang Nam Khiao in Nakhon Ratchasima, Phuwiang Dinosaur Museum in Khon Kaen, and Sam Phan Bok in Ubon Ratchathani.

Stay tuned for the reveal of the very first edition of Isan region in the Michelin Guide book, set to arrive in 2023.
