Silom institution Narai Hotel has announced that it is temporarily closing its doors to allow for massive renovations after over five decades of operations.

The hotel first opened its doors in 1968—a 12-floor building with about 500 guestrooms, ranging from standard rooms to deluxe suites. The four-star hotel was also recognized for its legendary dining rooms, namely Rabiangthong and Peperoni. The first was one of Bangkok’s first hotel buffet restaurants and the latter one of the city’s pioneering Italian eateries.

Narai Hotel, most importantly, used to be highly in demand as a wedding venue back in the ’70s, thanks to what was then one of the biggest ballrooms in Bangkok, with the capacity of approximately 1,000 guests.

According to MGR Online, the hotel is set to close from 18 February 2022 and will make the most of this time, when tourist arrivals are still quite low due to the ongoing pandemic, for renovations. The entire structure will be torn down to give way for a hotel that boasts an entirely new concept called “Be Part of Everyone Community”, which plans to revive Silom as “Bangkok’s true oasis”.

Narai Hotel predicts that renovations will take approximately four years.
