The nationwide ban on alcohol sales will lift on 3 May, according to the Royal Gazette released earlier today (1 May) and signed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

“Restaurants and beverage shops can open but the consumption of alcohol beverages inside the premises is banned” states the Royal Gazette. The part stirred confusion whether sales of alcohol to be consumed at home is allowed.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam later clarified in an interview on Thai PBS channel that shops will be able to sell alcohol beverages for at-home consumptions (between 11:00-14:00 and 17:00-22:00). Restaurants and bars are still barred from serving alcohol for dine-in service.

The ban on sales of alcohol beverages was imposed since Mid-April, as a part to fight COVID-19 in Thailand
