Sorrento and Fillet bartenders soar in 2017 Perrier cocktail competition

The dream team of Sathorns Italian eatery Sorrento and Chitloms favorite Japanese institution Fillets are declared winner of Perrier Mixologist Team Thailand Competition III with their innovative creation Pearl of Mekkala at Revolucion Cocktail earlier on 7 November 2017.

Under the concept Essence of Thai, the trio, which consist of Pongpak Sudthipongse and Jane Kaew-yod from Sorrento, and Ping Charoensri from Fillets, manages to create a wow factor with their cocktail interpretation of an ancient myth creation of thunder the folklore that explains the phenomena of lightning and thunder that are caused from the chasing of Goddess Mekkala by the Giant Demon Ramasura. According to Kaew-Yod, Pearl of Mekkala is the mixture of the finest Thai ingredients such as Talipot palm and Tubtim Siam pomelo from Nakhon Si Thammarat province as well as palm sugar from Samut Songkram and mango which all together bring out a unique sweet-and-sour kick which is brought to balance by sparkly Perrier water.

The Perrier competition was judged by three of the most respected bartenders — Shingo Gokan (the winner of 2017 International Bartender of the Year 2017 and the owner of Shanghais Speak Low and Sober Company), Lizzy Evdokimova (winner of Bacardi Legacy Global Cocktail Competition 2013), Dario Knox (The head barman of Singapores The Other Room), and Vassal Alexis (the bar manager of Revolucion Cocktail Bar). The judges were impressed with the teams creation of which the ingredients render distinctive textures of tastes, but at the same time do not over power Perrier, according to Gokan.

The winner was awarded the three-day-two-night bar hopping trip in Tokyo as well as a cash prize of B20,000 for also winning The Best Support Team.
