Let live performances and inventive cocktails surround you under glowing red lights at Black Cabin

When you think of the Bangkok neighbourhood of Thonglor, luxury probably springs to mind. But tucked away on Thonglor Soi 16 sits a mysterious house with a more soulful agenda. Walk through the door and you'll spot the red lights that act as this cabin's calling card. Step inside and you've suddenly escaped to a jungle hideaway right in the centre of the capital. Crimson illumination splashes across every surface, setting the scene for music that soothes and ignites in equal measure. Thailand's 20 Best Bars 2025 backs this up as one of the country's standout spots.
Black Cabin first put down roots in the Rama 4 area back in 2016, then officially relocated to this new Thonglor outpost in early 2025. The venue channels that same cabin-in-the-forest vibe pretty perfectly.
This place goes beyond your typical bar. It's a community built from music, atmosphere and the people who fill the space. From day one, the concept has centred on bringing folk together with music at its heart and conversation that flows naturally.
The layout caters to whatever mood you're in. Some days you want solitude, so there are corners perfect for solo seating. Other times you fancy engaging with both the crowd and the tunes, which is where the large tables and stage-front spots come in handy. Sitting near the stage means getting close to the music and making eye contact with plenty of people around you. If watching bartenders craft cocktails is more your thing, grab a seat at the bar. Whatever experience you're after, this spot has it covered.
Live music forms the main attraction here, spanning everything from underground acts to mainstream performers, with lineups curated fresh each month. This isn't just somewhere people come to listen either. Artists get a rare opportunity to fully unleash their creativity without pandering to requests from the audience. That freedom creates the magic that keeps customers coming back for memorable experiences time and again. Throughout the month stretching into the year, the venue hosts tribute nights and professional bands with packed schedules. Whatever vibe you're chasing, check the lineup and head to Thonglor 16.
The drinks menu matches the musical ambition with seriously creative concoctions. Each option gets uniquely crafted in a Thai-international hybrid style. Take my home, which blends Monkey Shoulder with pandan syrup, tamarind syrup, lemon juice and soda, served highball style. The sweet and sour Thai flavours come from tamarind and lemon, while pandan adds a gentle herbal scent that doesn't overwhelm. The star ingredient, Monkey Shoulder, brings vanilla, malt and honey notes that make everything taste smooth with multidimensional flavours.
Another standout is cacaonut, mixing Phraya 8-year rum infused with coconut, Campari, cacao nibs, cherry cream, orange juice and lime juice. Your first sip hits you with sweetness and coconut fragrance, followed by hints of chocolate and that Italian-style bitterness from Campari cutting through nicely so it never gets cloying. The whole thing stays mellow thanks to the depth of that eight-year-old rum, which delivers vanilla, oak and a touch of caramel that blends beautifully with the live performances.
If you just fancy coming to drink beer and let your mind rest, the cabin has conjured that option too.
The food menu surprises as well. The signature red ant egg salad truly befits a jungle cabin transplanted to the city centre. You'd struggle to find this at most bars in central Bangkok. There's also spicy chicken salad served with hot rice, one of those classic Thai dishes everyone loves.
Beyond being a meeting point, the venue commits to supporting musicians through the Cabin's visitor concept. The floor opens up for talented artists to showcase their skills, welcoming both established names and emerging performers. For Black Cabin, music isn't just about playing. It's about sharing and celebrating its existence.
The bar opens every Monday through Sunday from 7pm onwards. You can reserve seats via Line at @BLACKCABINBAR.
