On May 24, the Public Health Ministry announced that it is considering taking back its  recommendation for people to wear face masks when outdoors. According to ministry secretary Kiattiphum Wingrajit, the COVID-19 pandemic situation in Thailand has improved substantially, so protecting yourself in open areas may no longer be necessary.

This particular mask restriction may be eased in mid-June. However, the public is still advised to wear a face mask when in an enclosed and/or inadequately-ventilated space. The face mask rule is also enforced on individuals with a high risk of infection as well, and in gatherings and events with many participants.

The ministry also revealed that the kingdom is considering declaring COVID-19 an endemic disease in the next few months.

A final decision will be announced by the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) soon.
