Suvarnabhumi Airport is jampacked—we all know that. And the authorities are fixing the problem by pursuing plans to expand the structure. The expansion started with the construction of a new “satellite” annex, which will be linked to the main building via an underground train. The board of directors of the Airport of Thailand has also recently announced the winning design for Terminal 2. Created by the DBALP-Nikken Sekkei collective, the blueprint features East Asian inspired architecture, the use of dougong techniques (an ancient Chinese construction method that uses wooden brackets), and lots of wood to evoke Thailand’s tropical forests. This new terminal will be attached to the main building’s right wing, with trains transporting passengers between the buildings.
