Bangkok Design Week is back with more cutting-edged design projects and showcases, including those that tackle Thailand's trash management problem. Plastic is the main issue here, and we just can't stop using it. So creative individuals and firms have come up with ways to recycle the malignant substance by turning it into something beautiful and practical. These are some of the highlights we love at the Bangkok Design Week.

Look into my eyes you will see…

By Witchulada Panthanuvong at ATT 19

Bangkok-based artist Witchulada Panthanuvong turns objects of everyday use like plastic bottles, straws and toys into an insect-inspired chandelier to reflect her fear of creeping crawlies. The frightening, yet beautiful, piece catches your eyes with its vivid use of color and awe-inspiring structure as the artist wants to show that the tiny creatures, despite the disgusting appearance, are useful for ecosystem like the worthless trashes that can become useful in the form of artwork.

Circular Factory

by PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC) and Party / Space / Design at TCDC

The famous design studio Party / Space / Design, who previously designed House of Eden at CentralWorld and Siam Discovery, encourage you to recycle your household garbage through the fun and interactive exhibition in 3 different zones. There is a station where you can upcycle plastic caps hosted by plastic recycling project Precious Plastic Bangkok. Bring 50 plastic caps and you'll get a change to create practical objects like bowls. Take a closer look and you'll see the wall of Circular Factory is actually magnificently made of countless plastic lids.
