It has become a tradition for many countries to light up their famous landmark attractions in an emerald hue every March to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in honor of Ireland’s patron saint, and to take part in Global Greening, a marketing initiative started by Tourism Ireland.

Last year marked the very first time Thailand participated in the tourism campaign, seeing Wat Arun (aka Temple of Dawn) and a few places in Wireless Road, where the Embassy of Ireland is located, go green.

On 17 March, the same landmarks will once again be illuminated in the color traditionally associated with the special holiday. Wat Arun, together with Conrad Bangkok and 208 Wireless Road Building, will once again get the St. Patrick’s treatment, while Bangkok City Hall is the new addition to the line-up.

The Apostle of Ireland will be visiting other parts of Thailand as well this year. Sukhothai Historical Park in Sukhothai, and Chiang Mai’s Tha Phae Gate, and the Science and Technology Park at Chiang Mai University will also be lit up in green.

The green lights go on at these locations only on 17 March from 19:00 to 22:00.
