Time Out says

“I’ve always wanted to have a nice café with healthy food and a child-friendly atmosphere,” says Christina Grawe, the woman behind Glück, a newly opened café in the heart of Thonglor.

Grawe is a German journalist who has been working in Bangkok for over 16 years. You can say she’s done the rounds of cafés in the city, and always laments that there are very few places with an easy-breezy vibe; places that are different from the fancy, commercial coffee shops that populate every neighborhood.

After cooking up the idea in her head for years, Grawe finally put up her own café. Named after the German word for happiness and luck, this new cozy venue is situated out of sight at the back of Panjit Building, just waiting to be discovered. Glück is bright and charming, and presents a soothing, low-key vibe. It’s perfect for moms, who want to chill out in a place that serves healthy and delicious fare with their cute little ankle-biters.

Most of the food takes inspiration from Grawe’s heritage. The apple crumble (B100) comes highly recommended. Made following a recipe she learned from her late grandma, the scrumptious dessert has a base made of yeast dough—a practice that’s traditionally German. The gluten-free brownies (B100) are another must-try. The baked chocolate treat is made with vegan ingredients but still tastes perfectly moist and chewy. Plus, it’s served with homemade ice cream.

Glück also serves savory food. “Normally, foreigners think German food is what’s in Oktoberfest. It’s only pork knuckles and sausages,” Grawe jokingly says. At her café, patrons will discover otherwise. The menu includes potato salad sprinkled with aromatic dill (B150), liver sausages, and vegan tomato and cashew soup (B150). Have the soup with their special sourdough bread.

The drinks are as satisfying as the food. Don’t forget to order the apfelschorle, a refreshing German beverage that blends apple cider with soda (B80).

Within a short period of time, Glück has already proven itself a new favorite in the extremely hectic area of Thonglor. It’s the ideal place for a momentary reprieve, where you can enjoy delicious food in a place that does its best to make you happy.
