Time Out says

Those who have been to or lived in the States, or have consumed a lot of American media must have seen images of a farang holding up a small white paper box in one hand while awkwardly gripping chopsticks with another. In this box is tasty, stir-fried Chinese takeout fare like kung pao chicken or chow mein that’s been given the American treatment.

Now Bangkokians can have the same takeout box experience, courtesy of Wok Star Express, the latest delivery-based American-Chinese food stall run by American entrepreneur Kirk Stucker.

“Here, it’s all about the original way to serve Chinese food in America,” says Stucker. He’s hoping to bank on the nostalgic sensibilities of those who’ve had the experience and find comfort in eating their Chinese takeout from a box.

The menu includes a wide array of dishes, from stir-fried items with hot steamed rice to sizzling rice and noodles. The most popular dish would be the kung pao chicken (B220), which pairs deep-fried chicken drizzled with flavorful black sauce with cashew nuts.

The noodle options are also favorites. Choose between the chow mein noodles topped with various vegetables and your choice of meat like roasted duck, chicken, barbecued pork or beef (price starts at B160), or the Singapore noodles (B240).

Other Chinese staples also make it to the menu and shouldn’t go unnoticed. There’s the sweet and sour pork (B190), which comes with a “banging” sauce, and Mongolian beef tenderloin (B270).

No American-Chinese takeout menu would be complete without orange chicken (B200), a breaded chicken dish with a thick sweet sauce that’s purely that’s credited to Americans. They also have a lemon sauce alternative if you want your chicken more tangy than sweet.

Wok Star Express is located in Thanon Pan in Sathorn and has a small area for walk-in diners (limited seats available). Delivery is available on all food delivery service platforms every day (except Tuesdays) from 11:30 to 22:00.

Whether you’re an expat, a one-time student in the US, or just a Bangkokian who’s curious about American-Chinese food, Wok Star Express is here to wok you hard.
