5 Top getaways in Thailand this October

Leave the megalopolis behind and recharge with these escapes

Feeling the Bangkok burnout? It happens to the best of us. Leaving the city, with its Michelin-starred temptations and glorious, beautiful chaos, feels like a betrayal. Here's the secret: you don't have to break up, just take a break. Thailand is packed with ridiculously easy getaways that feel like you've crossed a border, not just a province line.

From the cool mountain air of Khao Yai to the sun-soaked beaches of Phuket and the serene shores of Koh Samui, these October getaways are made for slowing down and recharging. Whether you want to explore nature, unwind by the sea, or indulge in a peaceful resort escape, there’s something nearby to refresh your mind and spirit.

This October, let these escapes remind you that a little getaway is sometimes all you need.

  • Chiang Mai

What is it?

Easily one of Chiang Mai’s most ‘picture-perfect’ hotels, each floor is personally designed by a curated handful of Thailand’s most celebrated artists. Rooms are quirky and the newly opened Surr Bar is an artistic take on hidden cocktail bar fun where drinks are as bold as the decor. What’s more, stay two nights or more between now and October 31 and get free upgrades and late checkout on the house!

Why we love it?

Did we mention each floor is designed by a different Thai artist? Each artist has picked out their favourite style and modeled rooms per their whim – think subtle oil-painted nudes by Sakwut Wisesmanee to colourful pop art by Chalit Nakpawan and impressionist treasures by legendary Charoon Boonsuan. But for us, the real masterpiece has to be the Artist’s signature rooms – a single room on each floor that’s more a living art piece than a hotel room. Grand golden tunnels, pure white minimalist sanctuaries and suitcases overflowing with the artist’s own books turn each stay into a sleep-in installation. And, up top at the Surr Bar, monthly sip and paint events keep the shots flowing while guests work hard on their own, alcohol-fueled creative canvases.

Time Out tip:

Each of the six artists behind the hotel’s design gets free rein – and free stays – in their own signature rooms. If one’s booked out, don’t be surprised if the artist is in town; you might just bump into them in the lift.

What is it?

Devasom Khao Lak is a sanctuary where time itself seems to slow down – perfect for those seeking true peace and stillness. Just an hour north of Phuket, trade the well-trodden tourist trail for a more refined stay, devoid of unnecessary distractions.

Why we love it?

It’s not just the setting (though waking up to a pool, a lagoon and a beach doesn’t hurt); Devasom Khao Lak’s attention to detail is evident in the very first moments of check-in. Throughout October, the resort invites you to embrace its endless summer offer – a collection of experiences designed for rest and renewal that come complimentary with any booking of three or more nights. Think three-course dinners at the Takola Thai restaurant (one of only four Michelin-awarded restaurants in Thailand's Phang Nga province), spa treatments following ancient local techniques, Himalayan sound healing and gourmet breakfasts served in-villa. And if you’re out to impress that special someone, this spot lets you go all out without going all bust.

Time Out tip:

Although there’s a lot to do in the resort itself (and lots of it free if you make the most of their current deals), don’t forget you’re also a stone’s throw away from kayaking, cycling and nature trails – all facilitated by the hotel to keep things blissfully stress-free.

Until October 31. 79 Moo 3 Khuk Khak Beach Road Khao Lak, Takua Pa, Phang Nga 82220.

What is it?

Having only opened on Bang Tao Beach in August 2025, this beach club is the newest creation from Banyan Tree Phuket. The name ‘Rava’ means sound and reverberation, a nod to the venue’s mix of music, social energy and beach vibes. With three infinity pools and sweeping ocean views, it’s the kind of place where you can flop onto a sun lounger, sip a cocktail and just let the day wash over you.

Why we love it?

Phuket is full of beach clubs, but Rava Beach Club somehow manages to feel like it has everything rolled into one. You can start the day lounging in the sun by one of the three infinity pools, then grab a bite at the Master Grill. By afternoon, the bar is ready for sunset cocktails while DJs spin tunes that make it impossible not to tap your foot. There’s space to socialise, chill or just watch the waves roll in – and no matter what you’re in the mood for, you can find your own way to enjoy it. Spread across 3,500 square metres, the club features social zones, beach experiences and corners to retreat to if you just want some quiet. Basically, it’s that rare spot where you can bring to life every type of beach day you’ve ever imagined.

Time Out tip:

Every Sunday, Rava Beach Club hosts Pura Vida Brunch from midday to 3.30pm, embracing a pure life philosophy with fresh, ethically-sourced ingredients and a rotating monthly menu so there’s always something new to try. Highlights include a raw bar with sashimi, charcoal-grilled prawns  and a carving station featuring rotisserie beef, roast pork belly and grilled chicken. Priced at B2,900 per person.

109, Choeng Thale, Thalang District, Phuket 83110. Open daily 10am-midnight

What is it?

Easily one of Koh Samui’s most serene beachfront retreats, NH Collection Samui Peace Resort is the first NH Collection hotel in Thailand. Lined with swaying coconut palms on Bophut Beach, it’s just steps from the lively Fisherman’s Village.

Why we love it?

Ever feel like you need a holiday that’s both relaxing and adventurous? NH Collection Samui Peace Resort nails it. Lounge by one of the area’s largest freeform pools, wander through gardens scented with tropical flowers or join a Muay Thai class, yoga on the beach or aqua aerobics session. Kids and teens get their own playground universe, from splash pools and a cinema room to a proper kids’ club, while adults can roll up their sleeves in a private cooking class, sip sunset cocktails, or enjoy a breezy al fresco dinner. The villas are where things get really good. Garden-view terraces with al fresco tubs, family suites with colourful bunk beds and daybeds and beachfront villas with private plunge pools feel like your own little slice of paradise. And if you’re feeling extra fancy, the presidential pool villa with its infinity pool, sunken living room and BBQ area is basically a tropical dream come true. Every space is designed to feel private, comfortable and connected to the sea.

Time Out tip:

Book a beachfront or pool villa to make the most of the ocean views, and check out the resort’s Sea Wrap restaurant for Thai specials and cocktails by the water. For a special treat, arrange a private beachside dinner or wander 400 m to the sister property, Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort, for more dining options.

What is it?

A mountain retreat just three hours from Bangkok, Lacol Khaoyai combines luxurious comfort with serene nature views. This October, the resort doubles down on family fun with complimentary, hands-on kids' activities such as plaster painting, clay modelling and pizza-making workshops.

Why we love it?
While the stunning scenery is a given, the real joy is what happens off-screen and hands-on. The hotel keeps things lively with a variety of daily workshops. And the best part? They’re all complimentary throughout the month. The kids get to enjoy creative chaos, while parents can sit back, breathe in the crisp air and finally soak in that tranquil moment they’ve been craving. No stress, no extra cost –  just pure, easy family fun.

Time Out tip:

The fastest way to get there is to drive yourself or hire a private transfer from Bangkok (approximately 2.5 to 3 hours). However, if you're taking public transport, catch a bus or train to Pak Chong and then take a local taxi to the hotel. To give the kids a different kind of adventure, consider visiting Scenical World, the major theme and water park is only a five-minute drive from the resort.

Until October 31. 369 Mu Si, Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima 30450.
