Where to go out

Going out when you’re not drinking doesn’t have to mean a night of water or soda, Boston restaurants and bars are getting creative with mocktails and non-alcoholic beers to help you have a smooth transition into Dry January.

Moxie’s Seaport

One of Seaport’s newest bars also has lots of mocktail options! Try the Tropic Thunder, a non-alcoholic cocktail made with seedlip garden 108, citrus, passionfruit and a chili lime rim.

Coquette

Seaport’s favorite French restaurant is in good company this January. Ray Tremblay, beverage director for COJE Management Group which owns many of Boston’s hottest restaurants including Coquette, announced that all their restaurants would all be adding spirit free cocktails to their menu this month. Try to “Lofi” at Coquette, made with cucumber syrup, Mediterranean sea salt, Verjus, and tonic. Be sure to check out some other COJE spots this month like Lolita, Ruka and Yvonne’s to see what creative spirit free cocktails they’ve created!

PKL Boston

Want to go out with friends but don’t want to just sit at a bar and sip on a mocktail? Meet your friends at PKL. The first of its kind Pickleball Parlor, play a round of pickleball or cornhole with friends, listen to live music, or grab a bite to eat.

Urban Axes

Keep your hands busy by throwing some axes! Even better while Urban Axes is licensed to serve beer and wine, they do not have a hard liquor, so if cocktails are what tempt you this is the perfect spot. You can bring your own food or there is catering available.

The Tip Tap Room

The Tip Tap Room located in Beacon Hill has always had an excellent cocktail menu, but they also have an excellent mocktail menu! Choose from 4 delicious mocktails, our personal favorite is the “Lost In Translation” made with lime, Japanese yuzu, ginger and honey.

Alden & Harlow

If you’re in the Harvard Square area pay a visit to Alden & Harlow their menu features 3 mocktails. Try “The Morning Dew” made with raspberry and mint shrub, cucumber tonic and lime demerara.

Banyan

A South End favorite, Banyan is a pan-asian gastropub know for the amazing cuisine and creative cocktails. They currently have 3 mocktails on their menu and a non-alcoholic IPA option for beer lovers.

Hang out with friends somewhere besides the bar

Maybe you are a Dry January veteran who has no issue going out and ordering a mocktail at a bar or restaurant. But for those who want to resist temptation, or for those that want to mix up their normal routine and try something new, here are some fun things to do this January that do not take place at a bar or restaurant.

Get outside and move your body, check out one of the many ice skating rinks around Boston

Spend the day in one of Boston’s famed museums.

Stick to your fitness resolutions, try a new workout class.

Instead of meeting friends for dinner and drinks meet them for a juice! Boston has some great juice bars, including Jugos, which has two locations!
