We've made it one more circle around the sun and we are so ready to celebrate New Year's in Boston. With bars and restaurants reopened, parties planned and First Night festivities returning, 2022 is already looking up (stay right where you are, omnicron). Let's all mark the end of 2021 and set the tone for the next 12 months the best way that we can—whether that be by absolutely raging with your friends, sitting down to a romantic dinner with the one you love or parading the kids around a spectacle of ice sculptures.

Boston's First Night celebration is back this year, bringing a full schedule of performances and family fun. Highlights to expect on New Year's Eve include: live music at the BPL, a parade through Back Bay, ice sculptures displayed in Copley Square, a "skating spectacular" on the Common's Frog Pond and, of course, fireworks. • Things to do

Between the seemingly endless months of social distancing and the ever-persisting indoor mask mandate, all of Boston should be determined to make up for lost time this New Year's Eve. Most of us were still sticking to our quarantine bubbles this time last year, so we now pretty much owe it to ourselves to go all out as we usher in 2022. We think everyone deserves to work off all of that pent-up energy they've accumulated from sitting on their couches and to party the whole night through. Check out our guide to the New Year’s Eve parties that’ll be happening around Boston and get ready to welcome 2022 with a bang.

  • Restaurants

Let's mark the New Year from anywhere but the seat of our couch. Boston is brimming with ways to welcome 2022 with a bang, and some of us just want to have one last, celebratory supper to close out the calendar. Fortunately, a number of local restaurants will be open on New Year’s Eve, when they’ll be serving decadent feasts worthy of wrapping up 2021. Check out our list of the best restaurants in Boston offering fabulously festive prix fixe menus this Dec. 31.

  • Things to do

With the holiday season coming to a close and nothing but the dead of winter ahead of us, why not grab one last look at our city in its festive best? Elaborate displays of glimmering lights set against a dark winter sky are bound to lift your spirits while you welcome the New Year. Here are some places to have your last holiday light hurrah before the clock strikes midnight and closes out 2021.

  • Bars

More than just Irish pubs and dive bars, our city now boasts innovative cocktail destinations, classy wine joints and craft beer emporiums—all of which make for the perfect place to drink your way into 2022. Whether you're looking for the driest martini, a cold pint of local lager, a creative cocktail or a glass of natural wine, there's a place for you. Go big or go small, celebratory or casual—just be sure to check with each spot to see if there will be a cover charge or tickets that need to be purchased for entrance on NYE!
