Chicago could see first 80-degree day of the year this weekend

The rollercoaster that is spring in Chicago could reach a new high this weekend, with some forecasts placing temperatures right around 80 degrees on Saturday. If those predictions hold true, it would be the first time Chicago has seen 80-degree weather since way back on October 12.

Initial projections showed an elevated risk of thunderstorms on Saturday but have since been downgraded, meaning nothing should get in the way of you getting outside and enjoying your weekend in Chicago. That isn't to say the weekend will be completely dry, however. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for northeast Illinois, which could produce showers and scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

It will be mostly sunny and breezy on Saturday, with a projected high of 80—perfect weather for lunch or day drinking at one of these Chicago patios. There is a slight chance of scattered thunderstorms Saturday evening and Sunday, but the storms will likely miss the city.

While you're out enjoying the weather this weekend, you may want to spend sometime reflecting on why spring makes us better Chicagoans. Starting on Thursday, temperatures will drop back down into the 50s. An early look at the following weekend shows rain and cooler temps in the forecast, so get outside and take in spring while you can.
