After canceling the remaining dates of his Saint Pablo tour last year, Kanye West has largely stayed out of the public eye but he showed up onstage this weekend in his hometown. The Chicago-native rapper made a brief, unannounced appearance during Kid Cudi's headlining set at the Aragon Ballroom on Saturday night, dancing (and sometimes singing) along to The Life of Pablo track “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt 1.”

Kanye's last appearances in Chicago occurred during his Saint Pablo tour, when he showed up for a surprise set at Chance the Rapper's Magnificent Coloring Day festival and later brought his floating stage to the United Center and Allstate Arena. His appearance with Kid Cudi isn't unprecedented—the two hip-hop stars are rumored to be working on music together and recently posed for a photo with artist Takashi Murakami at his studio in Japan.

While Kanye was in town, some lucky fans ran into the South Side-raised enjoying a meal at a Harold's Chicken Shack on 35th Street. We're hoping that someone got him a Harold's cake to commemorate his hometown visit. Take a look at some photos of the local hip-hop legend that were shared on Twitter and keep your fingers crossed for a Kanye comeback in 2018.
